Floor Mirrors

1. Carefully consider where you plan to put the floor mirror. Leave plenty of space around your mirror so it doesn't look cramped. A cheval mirror may even require room to tilt.

2. If you choose a spot that is too small a leaning floor mirror will look crammed and might actually make the room feel tight or cluttered.

3. On the other hand, too much space around an ornate floor mirror may create an unfavorable, vacant look. If placed in too large of a space, the floor mirror could look lost or throw off the balance of the room.

4. The shape is another key factor to consider. While floor mirrors come in a number of shapes, you want to ensure that the one you choose ultimately enhances the current decor.

5. It's important to think about how the floor mirror will be used. If you intend to use it for dressing and grooming then you have to consider what shape and size is best suited for that.

6. If you intend to use the floor mirror as a functional item rather than a decorative piece, you'll need to pay close attention to where it is placed in regard to your other furniture. Floor mirrors need plenty of room in front of them for practical use.

7. Use the reflection of floor mirrors to your advantage. Place flowers, artwork, or even candles on nearby furniture so that the floor mirror does not blend into the room too much.

8. Make sure your floor mirror is placed in a convenient spot where it won't be in your way or be repeatedly knocked over.

9. Besides just being decorative additions to rooms, floor mirrors also can be practical space solutions. Some feature additional shelving, which is ideal for living and dining rooms.

10. The glass of floor mirrors may require occasional cleaning. Newspaper and glass cleaner usually do the trick. For the frame, try warm water and a soft cloth.
